Hello.

hi. My name is Rachel, but most of my friends call me Ray. I dabble in a little bit of everything. So I will be writing about just that: sharing about local businesses, motherhood, art in many forms, health, and simply what inspires + makes me happy.

So we are going to begin by playing a game…

Who else has a love/hate relationship with icebreakers? Me! It isn’t that I don’t like talking to people; its that I don’t like surface talk. I am one that likes to dive in head first. Lets get to the heart. Don’t get me wrong I can do it, I just love getting to know people’s story and what motivates them to get out of bed not their favorite icecream. But I figured why not play one with you. You don’t know me and I don’t know you. I’ll go first and make it easy on you, just in case you are an introvert and this is your worst nightmare. I can’t promise you that it will stay at surface level tho.

Ok…we are going to play speed friend-shipping. The concept is the same as speed dating. I’m going to set the timer for 3 minutes and try to get thru this list of prepared “found on pinterest” questions.

What are 5 things you could not live without? My bible, my family, my camera, my glasses, and music

Who makes you laugh the hardest? my cousin sarah. I don’t think I have laughed harder with anyone else. I remember we were driving around Grand Rapids taking her senior pictures and I thought I was going to pee my pants (truth note: doesn’t take much these days since birthing 3 kids)

What TV shows are your favorite right now? currently I can’t stop bawling my eyes out to THIS IS US! its the best show ever. But I also enjoy New Girl, Bones, Jimmy Fallon

Favorite book? To be completely honest, eek. I don’t like to read books. I love to research. I will research all day long, but give me a book. yikes. It will take me ages to finish it, unless its some kind of mystery thriller book. I know. Terrible.

What was the best vacation you ever took? I’m not sure if I would count it as a vacation since it was part of our adoption process. But we booked this cute little airbnb apartment in Gangnam, Seoul, South Korea just 20ft away from the subway. We hopped on and tried to go everywhere we could and just explore. We were only limited by our three 1-hour visits with our son, Ezra, and our court date. It was probably the most 1-on-1 time my husband and I have had since our first son was born almost 9 years ago.

If you could have lunch with 1 famous person, who would it be? Probably Ashton Kutcher. I think what he is doing with his foundation to eliminate child sex slavery is amazing. Love to hear more.

What do you consider to be your strongest character trait? I’m an all or nothing person. So when i’m given a project all my heart and energy is poured into it. I pretty much can’t do anything else until its finished.

What habits do you wish you didn’t have? Scrolling thru instagram 5 million times a day

Do you think life is harder now or when you were younger? Oh definitely now. I was just talking with my husband about how much we each desperately just miss freedom. Where we didn’t have to think about anyone but ourselves. where our decisions didn’t effect anyone but ourselves. Having 4 kids, you don’t realize how much our life revolves around the babes + not our personal desires.

When was the last time you peed your pants? bahaha! probably last year when I worked out with my trainer doing a bizillion jumping jacks (reminder i birthed 3 kids) I don’t jump on trampolines anymore.

How long did you date your husband before kissing him? 5 months. January 1 2006

What was your most embarrassing moment? Happiest moment? Scariest moment? embarrassing moment. ha! i avoid those like the plague or i shrug them off like no big deal. Nothing is coming to mind. Happiest moment would definitely be my wedding day. Scariest moment was in Nov 2005 when my husband (boyfriend at the time) had a DVT (deep Vein Thrombosis – blood clot in the leg) The clot broke off and travel thru his heart and then to his lungs (pulmonary embolism) He literally almost died. ah! He was in Grand Rapids and I was living Durham, NC at the time which was terrifying being that far way and waiting by the phone to find out the latest news. We found that he actually has 2 blood clotting disorders from this experience and will be something he has to take meds for daily for the rest of his life.

What hidden talents do you have? Eek! I don’t know. I play bass guitar.

Would you rather win a million dollars or work doing something that you loved? Worked doing something I loved.

What occupation did you want to be when you were growing up? traveling nurse

If you could re-live any time period in your life, what would it be and why? ha! I know this isn’t the case for most people, but man, i loved highschool, especially my senior year. I volunteered many hours a week at UNC hospital, worked with my best friends at a local coffee shop, President of many things at school, my brother and I were closer than ever, and I was dating Tim who I would eventually married.

Now its your turn! Share an answer to 1 or more questions in the comments or find me on Instagram. I love connecting with other bloggers + instafriends @rayannebarker.
